In March 1983, the first Coyote flew. This humble little one-seater has grown into a highly acclaimed aircraft around the world. The design endures today as a highly-evolved kitplane with the original design goal intact. The goal was to build a kitplane that looks, flies and handles like a conventional plane, but has a very low build time. |
Today's Coyote, even with its added sophistication and extra performance, builds in 180 hrs. Low build times are possible due to the high level of pre-finished parts, pre-sewn skins and ease of assembly. A Coyote can be built in the confines of an average garage using normal shop tools and skills. First time and experienced kit builders are attracted to the Coyote because of the ease of construction and quality. The Coyote S-4 has been in production since 1983. It uses a welded steel front section, mated to all aluminum wings and rear empennage covered in standard aircraft covering materials. Features include folding wings, and tail, a full enclosure, 4 position flaps, toes brakes, instruments, shoulder harness, adjustable seat, 2 blade prop , a 9 gallon wing tank, aluminum wheels and streamlined struts. Options include the Rotax 503 engine, electric start, heater, additional fuel tank. The craft is available in either a trike or taildragger configuration. Rans publishes a very comprehensive newsletter. The Coyote is also available in a Tri-cycle gear configuration called the S5 Coyote 1. |
