A third advantage, though not likely to effect pilots in warmer climates is that a ski can be fitted to the front wheel without fear of it coming in contact with the prop. The Excalibur comes equipped with controls for both pilots, and is steered as easily front the back seat as from the front. Brakes are standard and are usually installed on the front joy stick. It is one of the few light sport aircraft on the market that can be turned around by the pilot in literally it's own length and width. The main gear features a very simple yet robust bungee cord suspension system. This helps eliminate airframe fatigue since very little if any shock from landing and taking off is passed back into the airframe. With the dual controls, suspension system, and available doors this makes the Excalibur a great Light Sport aircraft or ultralight trainer, as well as an ideal cross country cruiser. Being only six feet in height, getting in an out of an aircraft hangar is no problem, and you will find many Excalibur's parked in pole barns located beside grass strips. The Excalibur also makes an ideal float plane, especially when equipped with the Rotax 582. The main landing gear is used as the rear mount with a locking bar to prevent the bungee's from working. If using the Puddle Jumper floats pilots will also have the added opportunity to go the amphib gear. For those in northern climates ski's, doors and in cabin heat are also available. |
