Hornet light sport aircraft design.

If you were at Sun N Fun in the early 90's you may have thought you saw a new model of the Challenger being introduced.

In fact what you saw was U.S. Light Aircraft's Hornet.

While the Hornet may appear from a distance to look like a Challenger up close and personal this little baby is the "BUILT TOUGH."

The design came about when Jim Millett decided after soloing in a two place Challenger that he didn't like the suspension system. So he designed a suspension system for his instructors Challenger, and then went on to design the Hornet.

His instructor Roger Chase then purchased his first Hornet kit and showed up at Sun N Fun 1995 and won Grand Champion Ultralight, following that up with Grand Champion Light Plane at Airventure 1995.

A number of changes were made to the Hornet from Roger Chase's original Hornet. To give the Hornet a wider CG range, the main landing gear was moved rearward two inches. For more pilot head room the root tube was raised an inch. The rudder pedals were changed so that they were farther apart for pilot comfort and moved ahead two inches.

Lighter pilots flying from the front seat can adjust their weight by installing or removing weights from an area located on either side of the front of the plane.
