A&P Aircraft Maintenance of New York had the Sigma on display at the 2007 AOPA Convention in Hartford Connecticut. The Sigma manufactured in Russia, features a combination of both composite and aluminum construction. The fuselage and main boom to the tail section is aluminum with the major portions of wings, pod and engine cowls made from composite material. The Sigma features dual stick and rudder controls, with a center mounted flap handle. The rudder pedals move for and aft to accommodate different pilots heights. The seats also have the ability to recline. The craft has dual throttles, with the left pilot throttle hidden away for ease of entrance, once in the pilot pulls a lever which then pops up the left hand throttle. Or the pilot can just fly using the center mounted throttle assembly. The brakes are operated by pushing the stick forward. Power is supplied by a Rotax 912 100 HP 4 cylinder aircraft engine using a three blade composite propeller. This gives the Sigma a comfortable cruise of just over 100 knots, a climb rate of over 1,000 feet per minute and a stall with flaps in the low 40's. Take off roll on a grass strip is about 300 feet. The plane is only available as a ready to fly LSA. There are currently several flying in the U.S. The U.S. dealer reported at the AOPA convention that there are currently eleven aircraft ready for shipment at the factory. |
