It was so well built that very few things have changed on it over twenty years after it first entered production. This year Phantom Aeronautics introduced their latest version of the Phantom which will be available as both a single and two place. The new look Phantom has been totally redesigned from the ground up. A new aerobatic strut braced wing has been designed, which is also tapered. The new wing has had all the load testing done on it and will be used on both the single and two place. The new struts and tapered foldable wing design have come about from customers requesting them. The new wing which has been load tested to 6,000 lbs on the single place, is more efficient providing the same amount of lift with less drag. The tapered wing also allow the wings to be folded back without having to remove the tail. This will give the two place a cruise speed of 85 m.p.h., with touch down speeds in the 35 to 40 m.p.h. range. Climb rate is expected to be just over 800 feet per minute, and the single place over 1,000 feet per minute. Phantom II specs | Cruise Speed | 85 mph | VNE | 115 mph | Climb Rate | 600 – 800 fpm | Takeoff Roll | 300 – 350 feet | Wingspan | 30 feet | Wing Area | 142 sq. ft. | Overall Length | 19.5 feet | Empty Weight | 500 lbs | Useful Load | 600 lbs | Fuel | 10 – 20 Gallons | Manual flaps have been added to the single place and electric flaps will be on the two place. The flaps will decrease the stall speed by 8 m.p.h. Power for the two place Phantom will come from the Rotax 65 H.P. liquid cooled 582 aircraft engine, or the two cylinder 60 HP HKS engine. The kits are basically bolt together units and should take the average person about 150 hours to assemble. Standard features are a three blade prop on the 582, engine instruments, plus airspeed indicator and altimeter. The frame comes powder coated in a number of colors, and a shock absorbing front suspension, as well as newly designed trailing link shock absorbing main gear. The new Phantoms will be available in the Light Sport Aircraft Category and can also be a 51% rule amateur built aircraft. For more information contact: |
