Phoenix Aero powered parachute. | | The powered parachute community must know something about the implementation of the new Light Sport Aircraft category that the fixed wing manufactures don't. While most fixed wing manufacturers are preparing for certification into Sport Pilot, many of the powered parachute manufacturers are redesigning to fit into the U.S. Part 103 regulations! | Phoenix Powered Parachutes of Argos Indiana was at Airventure with their latest single seat powered parachute the Phoenix Aero. The Aero even with a Rotax 503, dual carb, dual CDI engine with a 2.58 to 1 reduction drive and a 62 inch IVOPROP still comes in below the legal 254 lbs weight limit of Part 103. To prove it they had a Certified Certificate of the weight by Antibus a certified weigh scale company in Indiana. According to the certified the Aero weighs in at 252.5 lbs. dry weight ready for flight. But unlike other manufacturers who have used smaller engines, smaller chutes, and gimmick tires to reach the weight Phoenix has not skimped on anything. The Aero comes with all aircraft grade aluminum, aircraft hardware, the 503 engine, digital engine and flight instruments, a 62 inch prop, a Barnstormer 400 capable of lifting 900 lbs., a 900 lbs. shock absorbing spring suspension system and a four point safety harness for the pilot. Ground steering is done by a control stick for left and right, and push bars are used to steer left and right in the air. Elevation in controlled by throttle more throttle the chute climbs, less and it descends. The craft is available ready to fly from the factory or in kit form taking about a week to get up and flying. | Phoenix Powered Parachutes 417 West Street Argos, IN 46501 PH: 574-892-4785 : 574-892-9700 | Phoenix Aero single place powered parachute - certified part 103 legal. | For the web video interview on the Phoenix Aero - subscribe to the Ultralight Flyer Web video magazine.
