LookOut Mountain has been synonymous with the word hang gliding since the early 70's. Today LookOut Mountain flight park features a 5 acre launch point on top of the mountain, a 50 acre landing field at the base, and a 55 acre training hill facility. LookOut has been in operation full time since 1978 and added trike training in 1997. During the training season the staff of 20 instructors at LookOut Mountain certifies approximately 100 hang glider students a year to a novice level, plus many others to a beginner level. In addition they provide ultralight trike training to some 50 students per year. LookOut Mountain Flight park has expanded over the years to better service their clientele, who in some cases have traveled a great distance from all over the U.S., Canada, and Europe to learn how to fly. They offer accommodation to fit most tastes and budgets from top of the line cabins to tent and trailer and camping facilities. This year LookOut Mountain's sister company GT Ultralights has added another part 103 legal ultralight trike unit to their stable of aircraft the SkyCycle Super with the Kawasaki 340 free air engine. This engine is about 30 lbs lighter than the Rotax 447, and enables pilots to install an electric start for easy in air restarts, and still be able to soar because of it's lighter weight. The 340 Kawasaki, 32 HP engine used on the SkyCycle Super has been modified with the installation of larger cylinder head fins for better cooling and reliability. This smooth, powerful and quiet engine gives the SkyCycle S a speed range of between 25 and 63 mph. The craft comes with 4130 spring steel landing gear and titanium axles for rough field operation. It also has a four point safety belt harness system, comfortable seats and weighs in at under 130 lbs. not including the wing. Options include electric start, various gas tanks, pods, gauge packages, folding mast, and a BRS ballistic parachute system. The SkyCycle S comes as a complete package ready to fly, but can also be purchased without an engine for pilots who have their own power plant. To date GT Ultralights has delivered over 300 trike units world wide. |
