"Now those simple, basic, honest flying capabilities are brought into the light sport aircraft field from the general aviation world." The Thorpedo 211 comes factory built, test flown, ready to fly. It features all metal aluminum buck rivet together construction, with zinc chromated wing skins, and corrosion proofed parts. None of the construction techniques have been changed from the type certificate aircraft. Dual stick and rudder controls are used, with the ailerons, 2 position flaps and elevator operated by push pull tubes and rod end bearings, for a very smooth and fluid fee. The rudders are operated via cables. Jabiru 3300 engine which gives a cruise of 95 knots, at 75% power burning just under 5 gallons of fuel per hour. The Thorpedo 211 has a 22 gallon fuel capacity. Climb rate at gross is over 800 feet per minute on a hot humid day. The 40 inch cabin gives plenty of room for even two large pilots, and the seat adjustment is through "thicker or thinner seat cushions." The plane comes equipped with engine instruments, basic flight instruments, strobe lights and an ELT. But the large dash allows for installation of just about anything that a pilot could want or need. Factory painting is another area that a pilot can go from "mild to wild, only limited by the creativity of the human mind". The plane is currently being sold factory direct, but a dealer network tied in with flight training units is being developed. Currently there are close to 100 aircraft flying, including the original prototype which was built in 1946. |
